Thankyou Momoko - I decided a few years ago that making Christmas cards into new year ones was a good sneaky approach to not worrying if they went out late... more lasting value! Happy New Year to you XX

So delighted to have found your substack! i love everything in this post - the beautiful birds (my first memory is my mum at a playgroup making up a story with fabric shapes on a big felt board, incl a tree and birds... this reminds me of that magic memory) , the super cool danish design, and I LOVE the watercolour grid - I might borrow that idea!!

So glad to have brought back magical memories for you! And yes that technique of Jenni's is a golden one, can't wait to try it myself... thanks for the lovely comments!

Oh the joy of drawing a curve on my Etch-a-Sketch by twiddling the left-hand and right-hand knob at the same time!

And the constraint of 'driving' that almost invisible cursor across the screen knowing the continuous line I drew with it could never break. I loved the challenge of trying to draw faces then just a shake to clean the screen and start over.

Thanks for the reminder Jane of many happy hours spent etch-a-sketching and also for more gorgeous images - that joyous flock of birds - and can't wait to meet Bob!

Ah, Jane, the flock of birds is so lovely, and so is Bob--the character, the book and the toy! (Adore how the toy ears cover his face--awwww!)

Grinned at you taking apart the Etch a Sketch--my brother had one, and I also wanted to see how it worked, so I meticulously "cleared" the screen, making oodles (and oodles) of circles--while not letting him play with his own toy!--until the screen was properly erased and I could see everything behind it. It took forever!

I've never been to Denmark and enjoyed the vicarious visit!

Hugs and happy 2025!

That’s so funny about your brother’s Etchasketch - I admire your dedication in investigating that way and not taking it apart! Glad you like the look of Bob, I really hope he’s going to be a help and comfort to shy children. And as for Denmark, it turns out the song ‘Wonderful Wonderful Copenhagen’ is true - hope you get to go there one day! Happy New Year! Xx

Gosh, I love the flock of birds and that Danish poster! I feel the need for more Etch-a-Sketch info! Did you manage to put it together again? (I totally thought it was some sort of oven tray!) Happy ‘Be Bold Bob’ Eve! (Looking forward to getting my copy! : ) x

Isn’t that poster fab! Im sorry to say I did NOT manage to reassemble the Etchasketch - it was a bit like that Alan Partidge episode where he disassembles a Corby Trouser Press because he’s bored 😂 Happy New Year! Xx
